(Yicai Global) March 11 — Customs police in Suzhou city, east China’s Jiangsu province, has seized more than 50 grams of marijuana and one suspect who used Bitcoin for transnational drug trafficking, local authorities said yesterday.

Police from Suzhou Customs said they found it abnormal when examining a package sent from abroad under the name of “biscuits,” which gave off a special smell after opening.

The police confirmed it was marijuana and caught the suspect surnamed Xu on March 7 when he received the package.

According to Xu, he used Bitcoin transactions to buy marijuana from overseas drug dealers, disguising them as instant noodle seasonings, biscuits or other food, and smuggled it through the mail.

The case is under further investigation.
