(Yicai Global) Dec. 25 — Haimo Technologies Group, a Chinese firm that makes oil exploration equipment, is employing Microsoft’s artificial intelligence services as it looks to transform itself into a smart manufacturer.

Haimo and Microsoft China penned a service order on Dec. 21, the manufacturer said in a statement yesterday. The pair also inked a second agreement that made Haimo the first petroleum industry firm to join Microsoft Research Asia’s Innovation Partnership Forum.

Haimo plans to use the Microsoft tech and its own expertise to generate tech-led solutions in smart meter advancement, oil well development and oilfield construction, the statement added.

It will pay license fees to use Microsoft products and discuss industry applications of AI with experts from Microsoft Research Asia at annual closed-door seminars, per their agreement.
