(Yicai Global) May 20 — China’s Huawei Technologies, the world’s largest telecoms equipment maker, will launch of its smart high-resolution TVs in China in a few months to match those of Samsung Electronics.

Huawei will debut its 8K, wide color gamut, and AI TVs in September, Shanghai Securities News reported yesterday.

The Shenzhen-based firm is also seeking to develop liquid-crystal-display TVs with BOE Technology Group and China Star Optoelectronics Technology, people familiar with the matter told Shanghai Securities News.

Huawei has been working on its 55-inch and 65-inch LCD TVs that were supposed to be launched in May and August but the progress has been slower than expected, a person who knows about the plan said.

Huawei will explore the experience upgrade of the big screen in the AI era, Yu Chengdong, chief executive of Huawei’s consumer business, said at a conference last March.

China’s top TV manufacturers are TCL, Hisense and Skyworth. Xiaomi, the fourth on the list, more than tripled its shipments to 8.4 million units last year.
