Huawei’s CFO, Founder’s Daughter Faces Arrest in Canada

(Yicai Global) Dec. 6 — Meng Wanzhou, Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies’ chief financial officer and deputy chairwoman, has been detained in Vancouver. Canada’s Chinese embassy has called for her immediate release.

Huawei confirmed the arrest, in a written statement, the company said it has been provided very little information regarding the charges and is not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms. Meng.

The company believes that the legal systems of the US and Canada will ultimately find Meng innocent, the Shenzhen-based firm added.

Huawei complies with all applicable laws and regulations where it operates, including applicable export control and sanction laws and regulations of the UN, US and EU, the statement emphasized

Meng was arrested in Vancouver at the request of US authorities on Dec. 1 and she may face extradition to the US, according to Canadian media. Meng is the daughter of the company founder Ren Zhengfei.

The arrest is a gross violation of human rights, a Chinese embassy spokesman said in a statement published today. The Chinese government has urged the American and Canadian governments to restore the personal freedom of Ms. Meng, the statement added.
