Ikea Recalls Over 50,000 Lamps After Two Kids Suffer Electric Shocks

(Yicai Global) Sept. 20 — Ikea China Investment is recalling 50,197 wall lamps on the Chinese mainland after exposed copper wires shocked two children.

The firm filed the recall plan with the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision and plans to take back three lamp models made between March 1 and Sept. 19. The product names are Smila Stjarna, Smila Mane and Smila Blomma.

The models may have exposed copper wires connecting the switch box and wires which could shock users, Ikea said. It had received reports that two children had suffered shocks after touching these exposed wires, but sustained no injuries.

Ikea has requested all of its China stores to stop selling the Smila series lamps and to check for other substandard and defective products in store. It has also advised customers to remove the power cable from the socket and check for exposed wires, and if they find any they should return the lamp to an Ikea store.
