(Yicai Global) July 4 — The man who poured water over Baidu’s Chairman Robin Li yesterday has been ordered to spend five days in administrative detention for disturbing the peace, Beijing’s Chaoyang district police announced today on their Twitter-like Weibo account.

The statement confirms Baidu staff filed a formal complaint that the man disrupted the order of company activities yesterday when he burst onto the stage where the billionaire co-founder of China’s largest search engine was speaking on his company’s autonomous car development at the Baidu Create 2019, the company’s annual AI developer conference.

China’s system of administrative detention allows for swift punishment of petty offenses through summary agency proceedings that bypass more cumbersome court cases.
