(Yicai Global) June 19 — Tesla suggests its clients in China should wait with their orders for two customized car models due to the US-China trade spat which could cause tariff increases.

‘Due to potential risks arising from a tariff adjustment, Tesla does not recommend customers to purchase customized Model S and Model X cars and instead suggests them to buy cars in stock,’ the Palo Alto-based firm’s customer service attendant said to Beijing Business Today.

‘If clients still want to purchase customized vehicles, we will deliver. It might take about four months to receive, so no changes in delivery times.’

Tesla has already stopped receiving new orders for these two customized models from Chinese buyers, US investment company JL Warren Capital claimed, adding that the electric carmaker will only sell about 3,252 Model S and Model X vehicles in China.

Tesla reduced its prices after China lowered its imported car tariffs to 15 percent on May 22.
