Zhejiang Zheneng Electric Power Is in Talks to Buy Stake in Brazil’s Belo Monte Dam
(Yicai Global) April 11 — Zhejiang Zheneng Electric Power Co. [SHA:600023] is in talks to acquire a stake in Brazil’s Belo Monte hydroelectric dam.
The dam has a planned installed capacity of 11,233 megawatts, which would make it one of the country’s biggest. It is located on a major Amazon River tributary and is owned by the Norte Energia consortium, which includes utilities Eletrobras, Neoenergia, Cemig and Light SA, mining giant Vale SA and Petros and Funcef pension funds, Reuters reported today, citing two insiders.
The insiders did not disclose the value of the potential deal.
